About Pathashaala

Pathashaala, the youngest of the Krishnamurti schools situated in Elimichampet village (80 Km from Chennai), attempts to bridge the urban and the rural and aims to foster individual autonomy and encourages intelligent coexistence with nature.

For its inception Pathashaala drew on the thirty-six years of experience of The School KFI in the city of Chennai, practices in other KFI schools and sensible approaches elsewhere. It began the first academic year in 2010-11 with a small group of middle school boys and girls.

Today with the landscape transformed and with close to 120 boys and girls Pathashaala offers residential education to students from grade 5 to 12.

“The purpose, the aim and drive of these schools is to equip the child with the most excellent technological proficiency, so that he may function with clarity and efficiency in the modern world, and far more important to create the right climate, so that the child may develop fully as a complete human being.”

School is a place where one learns the importance of knowledge and its unimportance.

One of the important aspects of the work at Pathashaala is to draw individuals who are interested in and enthusiastic about education, sustainable lifestyle and Krishnamurti’s teachings. One significant departure from other institutions is the use of the term Educator-Learner instead of Teacher. Pathashaala attempts to create a growing and learning environment not only for the young but also for the adults who anchor the atmosphere of learning in Pathashaala.
